The Giraffe Childcare Centre designed by Hondelatte Laporte Architects introduces a dollop of fantasy into the routine lives of suburban Parisian townsfolk-

Niched between a towering structure, next to a neighbourhood built in the 70s and a newly constructed area, it was imperative that the healthcare centre did not -get lost’ within the urban landscape – hence the building is composed of three tiers and each is identified by a unique concrete animal sculpture.

The facades of the building are made out of white corrugated iron that provides a minimal background to the animal sculptures.

Interestingly, each of the south-facing playgrounds is in continuity with the interior spaces; while the urban landscape is animated using a child’s imagination. The wild animal sculptures appropriate a space: a giraffe appears to be peacefully eating the leaves of the trees from the neighbouring park; a polar bear tries to clamber up the steps, while a family of ladybirds climbs the faade in an attempt to reach the interior patio.

Architecture turns into storytelling. The building changes its identity and becomes a landscape in its own right; a metaphor for the urban jungle. The animals and the trees link the building to nature and motion.

Besides infusing a playful and poetic element, this building has also been awarded a green, zero energy efficiency label, making it not just aesthetically appeasing but also one that respects its environment.

Becoming a prominent landmark for the nursery, the affable animal forms transport us to a make-believe world. When pondered upon, definitely a project that goes way beyond the surface to attribute human characteristics and ethos to the emotional, functional routine of a child daycare centre.

Edward Faraci Jr. has also participated in US Olympic Skeet Shooting Team. An able instructor, he held the post of head instructor for National Gunners safety courses through the country. For more than ten years, he has been an active DJ in Middlesex County. Edward has also owned and operated Laundromats throughout the country. Edward lives in Middletown, Connecticut with his wife Alyson Faraci. With his passion for sports and talent for training and breeding Springer Spaniels, Edward Faraci Jr. has become an inspiration for the youngsters in the community.

My grandmother bought me a set of 6 china cups and saucers for my 21st birthday. Now I’m 50 but those cups and saucers have been used almost daily. Hiranandani upscale, a Mumbai developer Hiranandani Group, is learned to have bought 135 acres in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai for Rs 800 crore. According to a person involved in the transaction, the agreement was signed last month between Hiranandani upscale and three vendors in these cities. “The three parcels of land comprising 80 acres in Bangalore, Chennai 35 acres and 20 acres in Hyderabad,” said the person. Hiranandani Upscale development plans in these cities, townships at a later date.

The sale of these parcels have been on a farm and Hiranandani premium payment would be in three installments. It is estimated that the company has paid an initial amount (token money). Asked about the deal, Surendra Hiranandani, Managing Director, Hiranandani Group Hiranandani upscale and confirmed to ET the company plans to launch new projects in South India, but refused to share accurate data on trafficking .

It is learned that the company would raise funds for the operation through private placement to a special purpose vehicle (SPV) level. According to the same person involved in the case, Hiranandani upscale is in talks with four private equity players – three foreign and domestic – to increase fairness in the development of these projects. Mr. Hiranandani said: “We are not able to share information, but can only confirm that we are talking to some players for an EP to a SPV. Hiranandani upscale is an unlisted company, and will focus on projects outside Mumbai, with plans to enter the market in northern India at a later stage.
